How Solar Panels Work?

How Solar Panels Work – An Quick Overview – In order to know how a solar light can be effective to use around your home, you must understand how the solar panel works. The solar panel is the part of the light that generates electricity and powers the whole unit.

How Solar Panels Are Made

The most important element of the panel is pure silicon. When silicon is stripped of all the impurities it becomes a neutral platform for transmitting electrons. This material has bit atomic-level properties that allow for eight electrons in the outer bands. However, only four can be carried when in their natural state.

When one silicon atom comes into contact with another it receives the atom four electrons. This will in turn create such a strong connection that there is no need to have positive or negative charges. The eight electrons are taking care of that problem. The silicone atoms can remain in this state for years when made into a large portion of pure silicon.

The process ensures a durable bond, however, there would be no negative or positive charge since the eight electrons satisfy the atoms’ needs. Silicon atoms can combine for years to result in a large piece of pure silicon. This material is used to form the plates of solar panels.

Two plates of silicon will not be able to generate electricity in the solar panels because there are no positive or negative charges. The panels are made by combining the silicone with other elements that make up these charges. A common element that it is paired with is phosphorus.

Phosphorus has five electrons that bring in more atoms. When the two materials are combined in a chemical state eight electrons are formed and become bonded. This helps to bring in a negative charge.

The element boron is brought in to create the negative charge. This element is different from the others because it only has three electrons that it can bring. All of these elements are combined together with conductive wires running in between them.

How They Store Power

The panels work by soaking in the sun’s rays through the photovoltaic cells and transforming them into electric voltage. The panels will transfer the energy from the sun into the batteries – which will power the light. These batteries can last for many months or years before they need to be replaced.

Solar power is the way of the future, along with other technologies for sustainable power for all our needs.
